Can you give us a quick intro about yourself?

My name is Tjerk Muilwijk, I’m a Dutch photographer and filmmaker.

When did you hear about The Bamboo Brush Society?

A friend of mine was brushing his teeth with a brush made of wood. It got my interest instantly.

What do you think of the Bamboo toothbrush?

I’ve used it on my last trip to the Alps and besides being durable and looking cool it actually brushes really good! I think it’s great that people are aware of the impact we make on our world and actually try to do something with it.

You seem to be on the road a lot, what is the best spot you have brushed your teeth yet?

To be honest I haven’t travelled a lot around the world yet besides Europe mostly. But I can really enjoy the outdoors even in my backyard and Europe has the most beautiful places one can think of, so I’m not complaining. But that doesn’t answer the question, I’ve got a soft spot for Northern nature and mountains. Brushing my teeth while staring at misty pine forest growing beneath snowy mountain tops is one of the best things I can think of.

What project are you most excited about that you are working on this year?

The last years I’ve been doing a lot of filmmaking. But after everything got a bit too much I was forced to slow down and eventually I completely stopped with it for a while. Photography is one of the things I’ve always loved doing and I picked it up more frequently, mostly analog and in the outdoors. Currently the project I’m most excited about is ‘myself’ and my development as a professional photographer.

What kind of photography you’re doing?
I’m shooting a variety of subjects but with a focus on lifestyle, outdoor, portraits and landscapes. I love documenting people the way they are. I think it’s not only about telling a story but create a mood or atmosphere.

If you would be in charge of taking care of our beloved planet tomorrow? Which 4 persons would you pick to help you lead? (can be anyone in the world)

Tough question. I think friends and family are the most important. They know who you are and how you think so that’s a good start. I like to be surrounded by inspiring people, that motivates me.

Tell us your best travel story?

Almost 2 years ago I bought an old rusty Volkswagen van and converted it into a campervan with help of my dad. Since than I’ve had some awesome adventures in it. I love doing road trips not knowing where you’ll sleep the next day.

Any books, documentaries, films or series you lately watched and like to recommend?

The last book I read was ‘De Vergankelijkheid’ from Dutch biologist and writer Midas Dekkers. I like his way of approaching life (and death). I’m also watching the popular serie ‘Stranger Things’ and absolutely love the 80’s vibe in there.

Last question… What is the number one place you like to go travel to?

One day I’d like to travel to Alaska but I’m not in a rush. The van is still rolling and I haven’t seen half of Europe yet.
